In her project “Dream Calendar 2011” artist Olga Šilova has confronted two positions – reality and dreams. The heroine tries on different characters like a cardboard doll. Switching between different outfits also changes her behavior, character, story. The amplitude and variety of characters is vast – business lady, prima donna from a Brazilian carnival, actress on the red carpet, opera singer from “Carmen”, romantic cow-girl, Discovery Channel reporter in Africa, bride, pilot, pop singer, gambler, nun, and “on the way to America”.

International markets construct the female identity as an element of consumerist attention. Identity is sold with the commodity – clothing, lifestyle, design, dreams about a better life. The woman is an ideal consumer and shows outstanding zeal in playing the role that the society and she recognizes in the cultural clichés from the glossy front pages of magazines and TV screens. Artist conceputalises the question of identity – do dreams form from ones self?
